Last
Saturday, the 15th of February our granddaughter Ellinor, was baptized in S:t Johannes
Church in Stockholm, Sweden. Her parents, Claes and Valerie, came from Rotterdam, The Netherlands back to our capital to unite their near and dear ones for this ceremony.
Construction work of this stone church,
situated in the center of the city, began in 1733 at the site where in 1651 a
wooden funeral chapel was built. Due to difference op opinions regarding the
style of the church it took another 100 years to update the plans. Architect
Carl Möller’s design it in neo-Gothic style which got approval and the actual
building started in 1883.
The ceremony in
this beautiful neo-Gothic style Church was witnessed by close family and a lot
of friends of the young parents.
Ellinor was fabulous
in her mother’s baptizing dress and very interested in everything that happened
around here.
Priest and
theologian Carl Henric Svanell, gave us all a warm welcome and held a wonderful
ceremony. Together we sang beautiful
psalms and listened to the giving bible texts that were read. A blessed and happy
Ellinor left the church with her proud parents and Alice.
The baptizing bowl, in our family since Anders' baptizing, is now engraved with the name of the youngest member of our family.
Our lovely granddaughter Ellinor talking to me, and she had a lot to tell......
